James Ijames receive a 2015 Pew Fellowship in the Arts for Playwriting. James is one of 12 Pew Fellows this year. Check out what the Pew Foundation has to say about James.

"James Ijames’s plays and devised works examine how class and gender intersect with race, often drawing inspiration from historical texts, the media, and stories of his own family. His work deconstructs history and its established figures, as well as narrative itself, challenging the conventions of realism and received collective truth. A founder of the Orbiter 3 playwright collective, established in 2014 to foster sustainable modes of new play development, his work is defined by empathy and social engagement."

A project near and dear to my heart has made it's debut. Welcome to the world Orbiter 3. Philadelphia's first playwright producing organization!

We are Orbiter 3.
We are a producing playwrights collective in Philadelphia. For three years, we are making inclusive, accessible theatre that accepts risk, values local artists, and chases the playwright's vision.
We believe the next step in Philadelphia’s growth as a theater community lies in fostering new work by local artists, and that a playwrights producing collective is integral to that effort. With a burgeoning population of young playwrights committed to the city, Philadelphia is uniquely poised to become a hub for new plays.

We created Orbiter 3 to advance that vision.

Over the next three years Orbiter 3 will produce six new plays, one from each of the collective’s existing five writers as well as one from a writer we will welcome in 2016. In 2018, our collective will release our plays and documentation of our development and activities and transform into a resource for theatermakers.
